I photographed a wedding at Brecon Cathedral last year and was lucky enough to be asked back there to photograph Vickie and Steven’s winter wedding last December.
With a wedding 2 hours away from my home I don’t risk traffic delays and other set backs that could happen in the morning so I will always book a hotel room as close as possible to the first location I’m photographing at. This means I get a slight lie in on the morning and I don’t have a long drive home when I’m tired at night.
Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great with my weather app on my phone stating it was going to rain heavy all day, and my phone was spot on with its prediction. Although the weather wasn’t ideal the wedding itself was beautiful, from choosing a stunning Cathedral to getting married at in the heart of Brecon to then having a reception at the magnificent Peterstone Court. I have also photographed at Peterstone Court before but this time it was so magical, with all the white Christmas decorations and huge Christmas tree in the main room which gave a lovely warm winter atmosphere.
With winter weddings it’s more important than ever to choose a great place to hold your reception, because it’s never fun to have photos outside when it’s raining so being able to have somewhere you can use inside for photos shouldn’t be ignored. I had no problem photographing the large group photo and then smaller groups in the hotel and with the decorations up it definitely added to the ambience.
I wish Vickie and Steven a long happy marriage together.
